At WACH, we’re dedicated to combating the high prevalence of heart disease, including conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and stroke, which disproportionately affect West Alabama. With heart disease being the leading cause of death in the US and stroke ranking as the 5th leading cause, our mission is clear: to pioneer new and innovative approaches aimed at reducing risk factors and improving heart health outcomes.
WACH Program
Primary Goals
The primary goals of the WACH program are as follows:
Deploy dedicated CHWs (or their equivalents) to provide a continuum of care and services which extend the benefits of clinical interventions and address social services and support needs leading to optimal health outcomes within approved populations of focus.
WACH will help approach these goals by working with communities developing an understanding of individual and community factors that influence

Alabama Life Research Institute
The Alabama Life Research Institute (ALRI) serves as a focal point for interdisciplinary biopsychosocial research that investigates the human condition at all levels to improve lives across the world. The institute collaborates with UA centers, other institutions, health care corporations, governmental agencies, and community-based organizations.
